Meet the Crafty Sisters

About Juanita

An avid and multi-talented crafter, Juanita can turn a skilled hand to nearly any craft material or technique, from stenciling and paper arts (including cut-and-pierced work) to the needle arts (including cross-stitch, needlepoint, hand embroidery, crewel, and ribbon embroidery). She also does all her own specialty framing, and has led sold-out classes on this and a huge range of other craft topics.

A self-taught master of both tatting and crochet, Juanita has published her toy designs in numerous venues, including Hands and Annie's Attic magazines. Her current crafting passions include mastering her vintage knitting machine and creating beaded Christmas ornaments. She also continues to teach crochet and tatting, and creates unique designs on a commission basis.

About Jennifer

Jennifer started sewing at the age of five and made her first handmade doll at seven. After that she was hooked on the craft. Over the years more than 75 of her original toy patterns have been featured in magazine spreads, including several in Chatelaine, Canadian Living, and Hands. She has also published two book collections of her designs and has done commissioned work for a variety of clients.

In addition to toy design, Jennifer also designs and makes clothing, costume jewellery, Christmas ornaments, buttons, and a variety of paper crafts. She is a self-taught upholsterer, flat pattern designer, and digitizer. Her current crafting passions include machine embroidery and digitizing, and restoring a growing collection of vintage sewing machines.

About Our Other Talented Sisters

Whenever the opportunity arises, we plan to feature work by our other crafty sisters, whose talents cover a wide range of techniques and media. These brief profiles highlight only a few of their many artistic interests and skills.

Karen is a creative and prolific knitter whose gorgeous original handcrafted sweaters are legendary, both within the family and beyond.

Sheena is a master dressmaker whose beautiful work has included complete wedding ensembles and Scottish kilts and regalia, as well as soft toys, dolls, and small quilts.

Gwen is a gifted sketch artist and creator of stunning Faberge-style ornaments out of real eggshells -- she has carved and decorated all sizes,  from tiny robin's eggs to giant ostrich eggs.
